Personal Statement

Showing a range of work demonstrating hand-drawn illustration, graphics and digital projects. I approach my work with a sense of fun and when an idea gathers momentum it propels itself forward. What I am really looking forward to is my final major project where I will be able to design my own brief. I love being independent and the idea of having that sort of freedom is exciting.

Manchester Metropolitan University really appeals to me because it is located in a vibrant city. The course content matches what I am looking for because it has a wide variety of options that will help me to discover new design methods, therefore improving my skills. I know that by studying here, it will help me to improve my drawing ability and understanding of digital media. I also believe that going on a work placement will equip me with the necessary knowledge and experience for when I start my career. The pathways I could take on this course really interests me because I enjoy trying out new techniques.

Observational Drawings

Observational drawings using charcoal and ink

Observational drawing is an area that I really want to develop further. Within the last 4 months, I have already noticed an improvement in my confidence so I am hoping that by the end of the Foundation course I will be able to produce life drawings I am proud of.

Pop Up

One of my projects for Graphic Design was to design our own pop up card based on a designer or architect. Researching various buildings and designers, the Sydney Opera House captivated me the most. I based my pop up card on the Sydney Opera House designed by Jorn Utzon.

The self as rabbit illustration involved taking certain physical features and morphing them with those of a rabbit, I thought it was an interesting project.

Experiments using different mediums

Kawaii Project

I took a personal approach and made something based on a popular theme in Japanese culture. I decided to feature myself in the campaign because I understand the culture and no one understood my intentions better than myself.
The project brief is based on "Passion and Obsession".

Bauhaus Project

Our aims were to create a painting in a Bauhaus style and a poster advertising 90 years of the Bauhaus.
Experimenting with different techniques of drawing and painting, helped me to create my own Bauhaus design.

Spirit of the Decade

My work is based on the 1950s.
I arranged a photoshoot with a friend who I thought could play the role of the famous Marilyn Monroe.
